About The Clinician

Ongisa is a dedicated student currently pursuing her Master’s degree in the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at Touro University. She has already completed a comprehensive range of courses that have equipped her with a solid foundation in various areas of therapy. Some of the topics she has covered include Development within the Family Life Cycle, Child-Focused Family Therapy, Couples Counseling, Psychopharmacology, Human Sexuality, Assessment and Testing, and Group Counseling. Ongisa’s studies at Touro University are a realization of her dreams, as her mission is to support individuals and families in resolving their concerns and leading healthier, more fulfilling lives.

As she progresses through her graduate program, Ongisa is actively working towards becoming a skilled clinician. Currently, she is gaining practical experience through her internship at the Washington Area Clinical Center. This hands-on training allows her to apply her theoretical knowledge in real-world therapeutic settings, further developing her counseling skills and building her expertise.

Before embarking on her journey to become a therapist, Ongisa spent 15 years working as an educator, specifically serving the public school population, including children and teenagers in the DC/MD corridor. This experience has provided her with valuable insights into the challenges faced by young individuals and families within an educational context. Her background as an educator allows her to understand the unique dynamics and pressures that impact the lives of students and their families.

Ongisa’s commitment to making a positive impact extends beyond the therapy room. She has been actively involved in leadership roles, such as serving on the Charles County Board of Social Services. Moreover, she has taken the initiative to found a nonprofit organization aimed at addressing racial disparities in the Southern Maryland region. These experiences demonstrate her dedication to promoting social justice and creating positive change within her community.

In addition to her academic and professional achievements, Ongisa possesses intermediate proficiency in Spanish, both in written and spoken form. This language proficiency allows her to effectively communicate and connect with Spanish-speaking clients, further enhancing her ability to provide culturally sensitive and inclusive therapy.

With her diverse background, passion for helping others, and ongoing education, Ongisa is well-equipped to support individuals and families in navigating their challenges and achieving healthier and more satisfying lives.
